Blooming Beauty - A Themed Weekend in the Maistra 160

14. bis 15. Juni 2025

When the world feels chaotic, we seek beauty. We find it in the perfect harmony of a blossom, in the vibrant colors of the Engadine mountain spring that fill the high valley with radiant ease. At Maistra 160, this floral poetry unfolds in all its facets – history, architecture, art, and cuisine.

A weekend dedicated to floral art and beauty.

Under the theme "Flowers in the Mirror of Time," various artists and experts will present their creative interpretations on Saturday, offering fascinating insights into the significance of art and beauty. On Sunday, Prof. Jan Teunen will give a lecture on the importance of beauty in times of crisis, inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke's poetic vision. The weekend will be rounded off with culinary highlights that embrace the floral theme and the premiere of the exclusive "Maistra Flower Tea."

Saturday, June 14, 2025, 4pm– 5:30 pm

FLOWERS IN THE MIRROR OF TIME

Lecture: "Forgotten Masterpieces"
Lavish interiors, artistic ceiling paintings – the Belle Époque brings opulence to the Engadine. Swiss tradition merges with European elegance. Dr. Kurt Gritsch, historian and head of the Oberengadin Cultural Archive, introduces the world of decorative painter Kaspar Donatsch and the hidden stories of his art.

Following the lecture, a tour will lead through the floral artworks of the hotel:

"36 Rooms – 36 Flowers"
Together with architect Gion A. Caminada and botanist Pit Altwegg, textile designers Martin Leuthold and Bernhard Duss developed the idea behind the interplay of architecture, design, and nature for the design concept “Ediziun da las Fluors,” which adorns the ceilings of our 36 guest rooms.

Keith Tyson's “Still Life with Rose Vase and Seashell”
Art historian and independent curator Nicole Rampa presents Keith Tyson's work in our lounge as a contemporary reflection on transience and beauty.

"Flowers for Art"
Master florist Claudia Lischer from the Blumengalerie St. Moritz interprets Louise Bourgeois' "The Ticking of the Clock: The Heartbeat" in our restaurant as a sensual dialogue between art and nature.

BEAUTY SAVES THE WORLD

Lecture by Prof. Jan Teunen
Inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke's poetic vision, Prof. Jan Teunen advocates for a return to beauty – not as a luxury, but as a necessity. Beauty is more than an adornment; it is a mindset. In times of crisis, it unleashes the best human qualities, connects us with nature and culture, and opens up new perspectives. A quiet force that can save the world.
